In the recent spectrum sale which just got over, the new entrant, Reliance Jio Infocomm has announced that it bought the spectrum in bands of 800MHz and 1800MHz. It also said that the company has got a right to use this spectrum in 13 significant areas across the country.
Acquired spectrums of Reliance Jio Infocomm
For 800MHz band, the areas achieved by Reliance Jio are in the states of Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh. Some other circles are North East, Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh (East).
Areas like Haryana, Kolkata, Uttar Pradesh (East), Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan are covered by Reliance Jio in the 1800 MHz band spectrum.
The company informed that it will make use of integrated ecosystem and provide its 4G services by using Long Term Evolution (LTE) in the spectrum bands of 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2300MHz.
Besides these, the company already has pan India 2300 MHz spectrum. The company has thus acquired spectrums in 20 circles out of the total 22 across India. The combined spectrum will benefit the company to establish large network areas with deep coverage.
The Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani said, “Jio’s seamless 4G services using proven multi-band LTE technology and supported by our large spectrum footprint will provide superior user experience for voice, video and data services in line with the best service providers in the world.”
The band of 800 MHz is the most preferred band. Leading telecom operators of the world around countries like Australia, South Korea and North America use it for sub-GHz LTE implementation. This enhances their coverage and services. For India, the LTE implementation in this band has a lot of potential as there will be lot of spectrum available in the future.
With this auction, Reliance Jio has strengthened its position as its total spectrum has increased from 597.6 MHz to 751.1MHz. This includes both uplink and downlink. This makes Reliance Jio, the largest holder of liberalized spectrum.
After the Supreme Court’s direction, the results of the auction were announced, yesterday. However, it is said that the spectrum acquisition may be changed as per the apex court’s order.
The company has acquired the spectrum which will be valid for a period of 2 decades. To acquire this right, Reliance Jio paid Rs.10,077.53 crores.
4G plans of Reliance Jio Infocomm
The company is targeting to provide 4G services in 5,000 towns and cities and around 215,000 villages across India. It has made an investment of Rs. 70,000 crores. It will also build 1 lakh base stations by the end of this year.
Reliance Jio will establish a pan-India 4G network. It plans to give internet connection with higher speeds. It will also give communication services and other digital services in sectors like healthcare, education, security, entertainment and government-citizen interface.
