Reliance Jio’s 4G Services to hit the Market by September

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has an ambitious plan for its telecom operations. The Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) is expected to start its highly awaited 4G services by September this year in two metros – Delhi and Mumbai. A source within the company was quoted as saying, “Reliance Jio is engaged in building up team for telecom services which is almost done. Telecom services are likely to be launched in third quarter of 2014 i.e. July-September period starting from Delhi and Mumbai.”

In July 2013, Reliance had announced an ambitious expansion plan for the whole 4G setup. The company announced that it planned to add around 7,000 employees taking the headcount up to 10,000. Many analysts believe that the company may share information about the launch in June. 4G trial services have already begun in Delhi, Jamnagar and Mumbai. The Department of Telecom has allocated 22 million numbers for launch of services. The source added that company is evaluating devices of Korean firm Samsung and Chinese company ZTE for its customers.

After the launch in Delhi and Mumbai, RJIL wants to concentrate its efforts on the southern part of India as it’s a potential high-value market followed by West, North and East. During the trial phase, the company demonstrated speeds up to 49 mbps which are around 10-12 times faster than current 3G networks. At a speed of 49 mbps, a user can download a full movie, which is generally of 600 megabyte size, in about 2 minutes.

A unique plan to create a Wi-Fi zone inside one’s home is under work. RJIL plans to create an architecture where an antenna will receive signal from a mobile tower and with a wired connection to a set-top box or similar device, users will be create a Wi-Fi network inside their homes. This device has been developed on Google’s Android platform. Besides the wireless network, plans to connect homes deprived of strong signal with an optic fibre cable are already in place. RJIL also has plans to launch TV services through its 4G network.RJIL has also loaded 150 channels that it will provide across all devices ranging from mobile phone to TV sets using its high speed 4G networks.
