Relief & rescue operations by Army continue in Leh & adjoining areas

 

 

         Leh/Jammu, August 14 (Scoop News) – The relief and rescue operations by the Army continue in the Ladakh region.  The Army Engineers and Border Road Organisation were able to open the road Leh – Manali for traffic movement on 12 August 2010.  Road Leh to Srinagar via Zojilla pass has also been thrown open to traffic on     13 August 2010 evening after construction of seven bridges between Leh and Khalsi in less than a week.

          The Pak Army handed over, one unidentified dead body to Indian Army on the LOC in Kargil sector.  The dead body has been brought to Leh for identification.  With the recovery of his body, the death toll of army personnel in the calamity has risen to 10, the sources said.

Meanwhile the Army continued its effort to locate the  28 missing army-men in the Shyok-Nubra valley area. The Army had sought the help of Pakistani authorities to rescue the personnel of 15 Bihar infantry regiment as it feared that they may have been swept away towards Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the deluge.

 

          On 13 August 2010 Army Aviation helicopters evacuated two German and One Dutch national from remote village of Askuta in Khalsi block of Leh district.  The army continued  its assistance to BSNL, Leh for restoration of landline communication.
