‘Religion’ will be used for the first time as an amendment towards the constitution of China’s Communist Party. The 17th Communist Party of China’s National Congress closed with this amendment. This is indeed a major event in China’s history. Christians and other religious faiths tend to practice in secret most of the time in China due to the national religion being atheism.
When the Communist Regime had taken over after World War II, religion was barred. Chinese Evangelical Christians were one of many groups that practiced in secret. China tried to get rid of Buddhism during the occupation of Tibet. To the Communists, China dubbed religion of any sorts as a poison which is why they used atheism as the national religion.
This amendment to the Communist Party of China’s constitution is to insert their principles and policies in religious work. It said that the religious work in the Party Constitution is instrumental to their full implementation. The amendment was made to meet new demands.
It is said that the members that make up the CPC have been dubbed as atheistic since 1921, the time the party was founded.
