There are many religions in the world. All of these religions have their different beliefs towards life and deities. Among of the world’s major religions are Judaism, Hinduism, Shintoism, Christianity, Buddhism and Islam.
Judaism is one of the oldest religion in the world. It started in the Middle east more than 3500 years ago. The followers of Judaism are called Jews.. The teachings of Judaism can be traced from their most important writings, the Talmud and the Torah. The Torah had been said to contain the five writings of Moses found in the Old Testament of the Bible. Judaism is the oldest religion who teaches monotheism, the belief in one God.
Hinduism is the leading religion in India. This religion is also known as Sañatana Dharna. Hinduism is also considered as one of the world’s major religion following Christianity and Islam. Unlike Judaism or Islam or Christianity, this religion believes in many gods. They also believe in reincarnations. Among of the holy writings of Hinduism are the Vedas, Upanishads, Tandtras, Agam, Purañas, Mahabharata and Ramayana and the Bhagavad Gita.
Buddhism is based upon the teachings of Siddharta Gautama also known as Buddha which means “the enlightened”. The followers of Buddhism are called Buddhist. Buddhist tries to reach the state of Nirvana. Based on the teachings, Nirvana could be reached by having a clean living, having a good values and attitudes, meditation, physical exercise, and several others. Buddhism branches into two; the Theravada and the Mahayana. The Theravada spread throughout the South East Asia while the Mahayana spread throughout the East Asia.
Shintoism is the oldest religion in Japan. This religion was later influence by Buddhism that scattered from the mainland Asia. Shintoism does not worshiped any mighty God. They worshiped on “kami” or spirits of those who passed away, they also worshiped on animals, trees, sun and several others.
Christianity is the religion that centers the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. The life and teachings of Jesus Christ can be found on the new Testament of the Bible. The followers of Christianity are called Christians. The Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God and He is the Messiah or the Savior. The teachings of Jesus Christ generally falls into two; the love to others and the love to God Christianity is the biggest religion in the world with the estimated population of 2.1 billion.
Islam refers to the religion of the Muslims. The word Muslim means, those who worshiped to Allah, while the world Islam means the surrender or submission of self to Allah. Like other religion such as Judaism, Christianity, Islam worshiped only one and that is Allah while Mohamed is considered as the Prophet. The Holy Writings of Islam is the Koran.
