An action has been taken by the Indiana Legislative Committee that will definitely be a sigh of relief for specific groups in the state. A bill has received approval that came from the senate panel in Indiana. The bill is going to be repealing the contents of the Religious Freedom Law.
Religious Freedom Law has been quite a controversial law in the state because certain groups have received displeasure from its application. This law was implemented just last year. According to the law it was allowed for business owners to not provide service to people based on their sexual preference. In short, if a person was gay, the business had the right to deny services to the person based on that orientation.
A voting was done and it received 7 against 5 to receive the approval. The bill will repeal the Religious Freedom Law and provide protection to certain groups including bisexual people, lesbians and gays.
The amendment has been warmly welcomed by the people who will receive protection through it. However, it is still not the best solution out there for some such as transgender people. It is because the amendment has no mentioning of these people. In short, even if the amendment is made, they will receive no protection at all.
Indiana has been facing some economic problems since the enactment of the Religious Freedom Law. This is another reason why the state senate has been thinking of making amendments to it. Since the implementation of the law despite its controversial presence, the state has faced damages of nearly $60 in the shape of tax revenue and profit.
The US has been facing a lot of troubles in the recent years due to the rift causing the religious people and people with different sexual orientation standing opposite to each other. Federal contractors were prohibited by the government from doing any discrimination based on the sexual orientation of a person after Obama put his signatures on an executive order that prohibited any such discrimination.
Legislation was also approved in the state of Virginia that would not allow the state government to be discriminatory against any workers on basis of their sexual orientation. Such steps are being taken in other states of the country too. The issue is one of the hottest in the country right now but after looking at the damages of Religious Freedom Law states are looking in the direction of amendments into the law.
