Remembering Rabindranath

Today (April 9) begins the celebration of the famous poet and author Rabindranath Tagore’s 150th year.In 1913,Rabindarnath Tagore was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature.In 1915,Rabindranath Tagore received the title Knighthood from the British government.In 1919 after the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre,he returned back the knighthood as a protest .In 1950,Rabindranath’s poem Jana Gana Mana became the national anthem of India after its declaration as a Republic.Rabindarnath Tagore was born on 7 May 1861.In 1901,Rabindranath Tagore moved to Santiniketan.in Santiniketan.Tagore set up an ashram which included an experimental school,now it is known as Vishwabharti University. It attracks large number of students from across the country and aboard.Gitanjali is his best collection of poems.Rabindrasangit (Song of Tagore) is a part of life for most Bengalies.On 7 August 1941,Rabindranath Tagore died.
