Rescue & relief operations continue in Warwan area in J&K

Jammu/Uhadumpur, June 05 (Scoop News) – In its endeavors to provide relief material and other essential items to Nomadic Gujjars and Bakwarwal   trapped in higher reaches of Warwan area of Kishtwar district owing to untimely snow fall and hostile weather conditions, the air operation jointly launched by Divisional and District Administration of Jammu and Udhampur in coordination with Air Force authorities, continued for today also from Air Force Station, Udhampur.

            Sharing the details of relief operation, Red Cross Society authority, Udhampur informed that apart from blankets, folding mattresses, milk powder, biscuits, lighters, rice bags, breads, tarpaulins, Atta (Flour) etc., today more rice bags, blankets and tents were  also dispatched and stored at Inshan area of Warwan tehsil with the help of representatives of Nomadic community  for further distribution to the affected population not only in the identified locations but also the surrounding areas for the possibility of any one suffering on this account. These food packages were provided by Divisional and District administration and Red Cross Societies to nomads.

              The Air Force authorities informed that two MI-17 Helicopters fully loaded with essential items and other material took off from Udhampur air base and landed at Village Inshan in district Kishtwar to provide immediate relief to those trapped due to inclement weather conditions.

A close guard is being maintained under relief operation by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal and District 

                                    Meanwhile Chairman Regional Red Cross Society, Jammu, acting as auxiliary to the civil administration has extended its support for the snow bound victims of district Kishtwar and has been despatching various relief items for the affected villages and nomads.

The relief material despatched from Ist June, 2010 till date includes 525 blankets, 30 tents with accessories, 100 warm clothes, 100 pkts candles, 25 packets of match boxes, 6.250 kgs Gur, 12.50 kgs Chana, 100 pkts of breads, 20 tarpuline, 25 kgs milk powder, 100 pkts of biscuits and 250 kgs of rice and was sent to Deputy Commissioner Udhampur under the supervision of Hony Secretary, Regional Red Cross Society,  Anil Padha.

The Executive Secretary of District Red Cross Society, Udhampur, Dr. V. P. Sharma escorted the relief material to the interior villages Ishen, Warwan, Jabar, Gulabgarh. The State branch of J&K Red Cross has also supplied relief material to Regional Branch Jammu keeping in view the disaster like situations on account of unseasonable heavy snow fall in the higher reaches and has assured full support to the civil administration. www.scoopnews.in
