5/13/08 12:30 PM Posting

We regret to inform you, our church family, that at approximately 11 AM this morning we learned that search and rescue teams found the aircraft of Pastor Forrest Pollock in the mountains outside of Asheville, North Carolina. Pastor Pollock, 44 and his son Preston, 13, did not survive the crash. Please continue to lift up Dawn and the children during this difficult time.  We grieve with hope and assurance that our Lord Jesus will lead us and carry us through these difficult times.

We have lost a great brother, pastor and friend in Forrest Pollock as well as a precious little brother in Christ, Preston Pollock. We owe a great thanks to those who risked their lives, endured extreme hardship, and worked non-stop in the attempt to rescue our pastor and his son.

From earlier:

The search is on in North Carolina for the Bell Shoals Baptist Church Pastor Reverend Forrest Pollock and his 13-year-old son Preston, Tampa Bay Online reports. Apparently Rev. Pollock and his son Preston took off in a small plane at 4:10am Monday morning from Rutherfordton Airport.  The two were headed to a conference in Texas, but never arrived.

The 44-year-old Florida-based pastor Forrest Pollock has six children.

Rescue efforts are focused on the wooded area around Rutherfordton, NC.  The Bell Shoals Baptist Church is posting frequent updates on the progress of the efforts and urge people not to call the church. At 9:00 am this morning the update cited that "ground progress is moving ahead slowly due to exceptionally heavy under-growth and rough terrain."

The blog for Baptist organization Founders Ministries is urging people to pray for Rev. Pollock and his son Preston.

On his Pastor page at the Bell Shoals Baptist Church site, Rev. Pollock lists aviation as a personal interest, and details his initial education in journalism and video production.  He married Dawn Allen in 1990 and has 5 children besides Preston: Courtney, Brooke, Hope, Blake and Kirk.
