Resources To Find A Reputable Literary Agent (North America)

Finding a reputable literary agent can be easy or hard depending on how you look. The best way would be the internet. However, you’re still going to have to do all of this searching left and right on the internet. It’s going to take a lot of time doing your own research in finding a reputable literary agent. However, I have found a simpler way to do this.

You can either go to "Barnes & Noble" or "Borders" and boy a copy of a soft cover book called "Writer’s Market." The book is itself is well reputable from what I have learned. Several of my drama and creative writing teachers have said to pick up a copy of the Writer’s Market. This book is very much a database of all of the reputable literary agents that are in existence. Writer’s Market is constantly updated with each year adding new literary agencies and taking off agencies that have died.

Just about every reputable literary agency from the United States to Canada is very much listed. This is a very valuable tool for new writers that want to find a reputable literary agent.

It teaches you how to write query letters when submitting your works of writing to these vary literary agents. When approaching the literary agencies, you have to write a very good query letter. That is the first step.

Just about every literary agent specializing from: articles, novels, poetry, and screenplays are listed. They are separated into alphabetical order along with being separated into various genres: romance, comedy, mystery, horror, and so forth.

Writer’s Market fully goes in-depth on where these agencies are located at. They provide e-mails, numbers, physical addresses, and web addresses. It also goes in-depth on what these agencies specifically look for and how much they pay. Instead of having to do all sorts of research left and right, all the information is right in front of you with Writer’s Market.

You can buy a copy at an actual bookstore and buy one online for a better price. Amazon’s selling a copy of the 2007 Writer’s Market for about twenty-dollars which isn’t bad at all. I bought a copy several years ago for almost thirty dollars. In a sense, it was more of an investment to me. The copy isn’t something I’d let people borrow.

All you have to do is buy a copy of the Writer’s Market.

From there you can think about what you want to write about and what genre(s) you want to write about. And then you can take a look at the various literary agents. From there, you can go ahead; a

Only thing left to do is to start writing and submitting them.
