Great relief has come for diabetic patients who have before now suffered untold hardship as a result of no lasting treatment of the scourge. Diabetes has remained a deadly and devastating disease, which has killed millions of people all over the world. The disease has its early signs as frequent intake of water, occasioned by the excessive loss of water from the body through steady urinating. Another early sign associated with it is that it makes it impossible for wounds to heal, especially those on the feet.
Speaking on these, the Founder and President, Edna Nwobi Diabetic Foundation (EndiCare), Mrs Edna Amuche Nwobi, whose efforts have provided succor for diabetics, said people do not know the destruction it can cause their bodies if they do not control it as quickly as possible, and that she has discovered that the scourge can affect all parts of the body.
Diabetes a devastating diseases
According to the Umuchukwu-Ndikelionwu, Anambra State, born Food Scientist, all parts of the body can be disturbed if the sugar level is not controlled – the eyes, kidney, liver, intestines, pancreas – all the organs of the body can be affected. “It is a devastating disease, which can destroy even the blood vessels.”
She said through her research, she was able to discover that diabetes can be controlled by food and exercises, or in other words through ones lifestyle changes. “I also discovered the implications of uncontrolled diabetes, what it can do to the body.”
