The latest news coming out from Islamabad are some what encouraging as far as restoration of judges are concerned following the day of a horrible suicide attack in Wahcant yesterday. Pakistan people party sources claimed early on Friday that resolution regarding restoration of judges is to be presented in National Assembly today. However, other sources said that decision concerning resolution will be taken after PPP central executive committee meeting which is going to be held today before the National Assembly session in evening time. If resolution is presented today then it is also possible that debate on resolution would not start today, they added. The major coalition partner PML(N) has already threatened to quit the government if judges are not restored by Friday, as they stated yesterday.
Earlier at least seventy people were killed and more than 80 others injured, when two suicide bombers blew themselves up outside the gates of Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) situated in high security zone of Wah Cantonment, some 30-km from the federal capital on Thursday afternoon. when employees of the arms factory were leaving after finishing their shift duty, and it was very crowded at the gate when suicide bombers struck. The smoke engulfed the area for some time, while body parts and blood were scattered on a very large radius on both the places of bombing.
Immediately after the blasts, emergency services from Wah, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi, including Rescue-15, Rescue-1122 and the Edhi Foundation rushed towards the scene to carry dead and injured people to hospitals. Injured and slain were rushed to POF Wah Hospital and other hospitals in Rawalpindi and Islamabad as all the hospitals were put on emergency to treat the dozens of injured of the twin blasts.
Security personnel immediately rushed towards the scene as bomb site was being considered to be very sensitive due to military installations and ordinance factory. Police and other law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the area while the whole cantonment area was sealed.
Pakistan Ordinance Factory Wah is the largest ordnance factory of the country, which is producing major part of the conventional arms and ammunition, having about 40,000 employees. Police confirmed that it was suicide bombing and two suicide bombers came on the gates after breaching the security system and blew themselves up. The Regional Police Officer, Rawalpindi, Nasir Khan Durrani said that the death toll may rise as the number of critically injured people is very high. "At least 20 people have been critically injured", Durrani said, adding that none of the dead was military personnel.
