Samba, November 01(Scoop News)- Reiterating his resolve that dialogue is the only way to restore lasting peace in this sub-continent, patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today emphasized on taking some effective steps to boost the process of peace and reconciliation with the neighbouring country. He cautioned the cosmetic steps are not going to help in establishing permanent peace on the borders. Addressing series of meetings in border villages of Vijaypur and Samba assembly segments, Mufti said that there is no alternative of dialogue to solve all the vexed problems.
“The reconciliation and peace initiatives started after formation of PDP led government in the State is an irreversible process and there is no alternative of it”, he said, adding, “Dialogue is one and only way to solve all problems, and there is need of accelerate the initiatives for resumption of meaningful dialogue”. He further said that roadmap laid by PDP-led government was the only way to establish sustainable peace in this sub-continent. “PDP, through its pro-peace polices, had convinced both India and Pakistan to announce ceasefire in the year 2003 and take some Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) for restoration of peace in this region”, he said, adding, “Whatever steps we initiated for restoring peace, successive regimes at Delhi had endorsed our stand from time to time.
“Previous NDA regime headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee and present UPA government led by Dr Manmohan Singh had whole heartedly supported the initiatives taken by PDP regime for establishing sustainable peace in this region”, he said. Expressing his concern over recent unfortunate incidents on the borders, he said that some concrete steps should be taken to avoid re-occurrence of such incidents which only add hardship and miseries to the border residents.
He emphasized on the need to carry forward the peace initiatives and to expand the process of cross-LoC cooperation and trade in Jammu and Kashmir. “Indo-Pak cooperation is the key to resolving region’s problems” he said and observed peace and cordial relations were in the interests of both the countries.
Mr Sayeed said agenda of his party was to restore peace and tranquillity in the state. He said the PDP through its visionary policies had already changed the political discourse of the state and the party would continue to aggressively pursue its pro-peace and pro-development agenda. Mr Sayeed said the PDP was formed in 1999 with an aim to restore peace and to uphold dignity and honour of the people of the state. “Aim of the PDP is not to grab people but to address grievances of the people,” he said. Highlighting achievements of the PDP, Sayeed said the biggest achievement of his party was that it had connected itself with the masses and earned credibility and faith of the people through its convictions and commitments. Mufti addressed public meeting at border village of Nanga and Kungawala. He also visited the resident of Mangal Dass which has been damaged due to skirmishes on the borders.
