Review of FFXII

The Final Fantasy series always has been know for it’s intricate storyline, great characters and interesting plot twists. In this matter Final Fantasy 12 keeps that alive . Brining us back to the world of Ivalice that we were first introduced to in the Gameboy Advance title Final Fantasy Tactics. The characters while slightly cliche are charming as ever. The plot line lands a young thief named Vaan as he makes his way through the warring continent.

The familiar level system is expanded on with the license system. This system determines what equipment and magics can be used as well as giving skills and boosts to stats. Licenses are purchased with license which are earned in battle along with experience points. As you gain more licenses more powerful ones become available.

The battle system however suffers some fatal flaws. The random battles have been replaced with enemies on the screen. When you approach one a battle starts. However in FFXII there is no separate battle screen as battles are done in a real time like format. However the fact that the battle system tried to combine real time with turn based ends up with you looking at a staring match between you and your enemies as your action bar fills.

If you can overlook the poor battle system and you enjoy the Final Fantasy series this game is indeed for you.
