These days most people will sit down and play a online game of World of Warcraft or maybe Guild Wars. However for breaking away from the mainstream games we move to the old turn based strategy games. One such title is Warlords III. In this title you control a warlord as he raises his army and forms allies to combat the Evil Lord Bane. The game is split into stages each of which you much build units, take over cities and in the end destroy your opponent.
Units are created on a turn based system with stronger units taking more turns to build. Each unit has three stats, Power, health and move. Unit a limited to the distance they can move by there move stat. When in battle a internal dice system is used with the strength stat to determine how fights end. a unit dies when they lose all of there health. Some units gain power ups depending on where they are or what they are battling. Other power ups may allow you to eliminate an opposing unit at once.
From time to time your units known as heroes will offer there services to you. These units are special as they level up and can gain power boosts. They can also be select to go on quests which rewards gold or powerful allies, with the risk of losing your hero.
In each stage there are up to eight armies, each of which you can attempt to ally with or bribe into attacking another force. Some armies you cannot ally with and others are all to eager to join you. The stage ends when only you and your allies remain.
There are many other things within the Warlords III game that make it quite a treat. In it’s time it received high marks from all gaming magazines, today if you can over look the grainy video and the limited graphics you’ll find yourself in a rare gaming experience.
