Rice prices hit record high in Bangladesh

Rice prices hit all time record high in Bangladesh. Minimum price of per kilogram coarse rice is Tk 30 now. The prices of these rice varieties were Tk 28-29 two days ago and Tk 25-26 only six days earlier. In December 2006, it was only 20-22 Tk.  The price of Kataribhog of Dinajpur, the best quality in the market, is Tk 60 a kg which was 40 Tk in 2006.


Such price hikes were the result of India’s decision to increase the minimum rate of rice exported to Bangladesh from $425 to $500 per ton. The import of rice through Benapole land port began at an increased rate of $505 per ton.
