Srinagar,February 22 (Scoop News) – The National Service Scheme (NSS), University of Kashmir conducted its annual meeting at the university Campus, KU to kick-starts its plan for Social service activities for the year 2011 .
The meeting was attended by about 100 NSS Programme Officers from various degree colleges and secondary schools across the valley. The meeting chaired by Prof. A.R. Yousuf, Dean Academic Affairs, KU was also attended by Prof. S. Fayaz, R Earlier, while welcoming the members, Prof. Iqbal A. Hakim, Programme Coordinator NSS, presented the review of activities conducted by NSS in the last year and placed the agenda for the discussion. He also announced that apart from the current plantation drive, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. is planning to plant about 1, 00,000 tree saplings across the valley through NSS and other agencies in the year 2011 as a part of their corporate social responsibility.
The proceedings were conducted by Prof. Iqbal A. Hakim Programme Coordinator NSS who spoke about the activities. One of the major issue that was discussed was the ensuing plantation drive that will be undertaken by NSS wings of all the colleges and secondary schools under the aegis of NSS, University of Kashmir in collaboration with M/S. Rahim Greens (Rahim Motors Srinagar). Last year 30,000 plant saplings were sown by the NSS units and this year about 50,000 saplings are expected to be planted by the NSS wing in collaboration of M/S. Rahim Greens (Rahim Motors Srinagar). The other issues that were discussed were the adoption of NYC Scheme by the NSS units across the valley, preparation and submission of bi-annual NSS reports and funds utilization certificates, reservation of NSS volunteers for PG admission in the university and conduct of NSS activities by the colleges and secondary schools in the coming year. Prof. A.R. Yusuf while giving his presidential remarks appreciated the role of NSS for organizing plantation campaigns and other such social service activities.
He quoted ‘Hadith ’ pemphasizing the need for all of us to contribute positively towards various aspects of the community service. Prof. S. Fayaz, Registrar KU while remembering his time with NSS opined that it has not only enhanced his love for NSS activities but has transformed him into a being a social service being and was happy to note the overwhelming response of the NSS programme officers who had come from far off places of the valley to attend the meeting.
