TeamLease Services, India‘s largest staffing company, has released the ”Romance at Workplace” survey to understand the changing view of romance in India‘s workplaces.
Before checking the key findings of the current survey conducted by global research firm lets look at another survey that was carried out sometime back.
This international workplace survey conducted two years ago revealed that India has one of the highest rates of employee satisfaction in the world. The survey by the Fortune 500 global staffing leader, Kelly Services, found that 66 per cent of the Indian employees were either happy or very happy with their current position.
The survey also found that Indian employees ranked seventh out of 28 countries in the global survey for employee satisfaction. Within the eight countries in the Asia-Pacific region, India ranked first along with Indonesia for happy employees.
The survey revealed that India ranked seventh on a world scale in rating their employer’s performance and second along with Australia in the Asia-Pacific region. New Zealand was voted as having the best bosses in the region. Most happy employees were in the IT industry (66 per cent) followed by business services (65 per cent), engineering (65 per cent) and financial services (61 per cent).
The happiest employees were from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Tamil Nadu.
Now coming back to the results of the present ”Romance at Workplace” survey. Long work schedules, spending long hours in close proximity with the opposite gender is leading to workplace romances and affairs; and it is not just the single who are ready to mingle. Even married men and women are getting involved to a considerable extent.
The survey revealed that employees see getting involved with bosses as the quickest way to a salary increase or promotion. However, many feel affairs impact work productivity negatively.A structured questionnaire was administered using a mix of telephonic and computer-aided-telephonic-interviewing (CATI) technology, to working men and women across all levels belonging to top 500 companies in India for a sample size of 402.
The cities where in the questionnaire was administered are Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune, Chandigarh and Hyderabad. Among cities, Delhi scored the highest in office romances with 28%.
The key findings of the survey are as below:
