Romantic Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands are India’s one of the most romantic destinations. They are located 150 km north of Aceh in Indonesia and separated from Thailand and Burma by Andaman Sea. Bay of Bengal lies west of Andaman Islands.
The British Government used Andaman & Nicobar Islands as a penal colony, and prisoners of India’s independence movement were given “sazaye kalapani” in the Cellular Jails created there. The Cellular Jail in Port Blair, was also considered to be the Siberia of British India. There are 389 islands in the territory measuring 8249 km.
The flora and fauna of Andaman Islands attract people from different parts of the world. The tropical rain forest have elements of Indian, Myamarese, Malaysian floral strains. The ornamental woods found there includes marble wood, Padauk, Silvery Grey, Chooi, Kokko. The inhabitants include Andamanese, Jarawa, Jangil, Onge and Sentinelese.
Havelock is the largest island in Andaman situated 57 km North East of Capital city of Port Blair. Radha Nagar Beach on the western coast was named the best beach of Asia by Times in 2004. The Elephant Beach and the Vijaynagar Beach are equally famous.
The Baratang Island is another island containing mud volcanoes in India. The locals call the mud volcanoes “Jalki”. One of them erupted during the period when Tsunami occurred in the area. The other notable islands include the Neil Island, Long Island, Rangat, Mayabunder, Ross and Smith Island, Little Andaman Island and Diglipur. The solitude in the areas haunts the tourists.
Many tour operators in India provide attractive packages relating to Andaman travel, including North Bengal Tours and Travels. November to January are the peak seasons. Tourists should visit the paradise at least once in their lifetime.
