It was not long ago that Republican Representative Ron Paul of Texas had announced he was dropping out of the GOP race. However, Senator John McCain of Arizona was the one that clinched the GOP nomination and is the presumed GOP nominee. But, Paul cannot be discounted as a threat to the GOP.
Paul has two major things going on in which the current state of the GOP need to be careful for. McCain needs to watch himself for Paul could siphon attention away from him at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, this coming September.
There is already the Ron Paul Revolution that continues gaining strength and support with each coming day. His book called “The Revolution: A Manifesto” was on the New York Times bestseller list. The GOP has much to fear from this Ron Paul Revolution.
Paul had also moved to create the “Campaign for Liberty” which the task of getting more libertarian-leaning Republicans into public office across the United States.
As Paul dropped out of the race, his supporters in Montana have refused to leave him. The group led a battle at Montana’s GOP convention. Paul said that Montana had treated him well. Still, the Paul supporters were outnumbered by the McCain supporters.
Paul did give thanks to the Montana GOP for letting him speak at their dinner.
Many have branded McCain as the maverick of the GOP. However, it may seem as Paul is the true maverick. Paul’s record shows that he has opposed many ideas of current US President George W. Bush.
The GOP has a lot to fear. Paul’s supporters plan to continue fighting at the GOP Convention. At the same time, there will be a Ron Paul rally in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the same time that the GOP Convention is going on.
In short, McCain and the rest of the GOP need to watch out.
