Rosemary Jacobs, 66, suffers from argyria, a skin condition caused by an excess of silver, which causes her skin to have a silver/grey hue.
Rosemary Jacobs started taking nose drops that contained colloidal silver (CSP) to control allergies when she was eleven years old and took them for four years. By that time, it was too late because the permanent silver color of her face and skin had already set in.
She says that having the discoloration has all but ruined her life. "Strangers think I have a contagious disease and stay away from me," she says. "I never dated at high-school or college or had boyfriends. I longed to be normal."
In the late 1970s, Rosemary Jacobs underwent a medical procedure that removed the top layer of skin on her face and most of the deposited silver particles. After the surgery, her face was a raw, blotchy pink. As a sad end to the story, she says "I don’t think I look much better now."
