Brief on KP RTI Commission
PESHAWAR: Right to Information RTI Commission started proper working in March 2014 after the enactment of RTI Act 2013 pass by the present provincial assembly in October 2013.
Objective of the RTI is to ensure transparency and accountability in Public departments by providing the right to access to information to general public.
The RTI Commission has nominated more than 600 Public Information Officers throughout the province to facilitate the information seekers.
These PIOs has facilitated more than 4732 requests since 2014 till date besides entertaining 2562 complaints at the commission’s end.
RTI Commission has kicked off an instantaneous media campaign to pass the enactment of RTI law to general masses. For this purpose broachers, pamphlets, posters annual reports had been published from time to time to promote the RTI cause, besides installation of Billboards at highways at district and provincial level.
Likewise, awareness activities were also carried out on social media where a dedicated team supervised by the IT Section of RTIC. The pages can be accessed from the following links i.e. KP RTI Commission and twitter account i.e. @kprti.
In the same vein, an online web portal has also been launched to facilitate the public in redressing their grievances. The portal can directly be accessed through KP RTI Commission website and from the following web link KP E-RTI Service. It is worth mentioning that a toll free number 080057784, has also been installed to facilitate the information requesters where a dedicated facilitation team provide information from 8 am to 4 pm.
The KP RTI Chief Information commissioner realizing the importance of the RTIC has carried out awareness seminars and workshops for the elected members at district and Tehsil levels in Abbottabad, Nowshera, Mardan, Buner, Kohat and DI Khan whereas other districts shall be accessed in the near future in this regard.
