Ruckus in UP Assembly as Mulayam slams Governor

Lucknow, Feb 10: The Budget Session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Tuesday got off to a stormy start with the entire opposition disrupting Governor TV Rajeshwar’s address.

The disruption in the House was witnessed when the determined SP, Rashtriya Lok Dal and Congress members holding anti-government banners raised slogans against the Mayawati government shortly after the Governor stood up to address the joint session.

The disruption in the House was witnessed when the determined SP, Rashtriya Lok Dal and Congress members holding anti-government banners raised slogans against the Mayawati government shortly after the Governor stood up to address the joint session.

The SP MLAs were also seen throwing black flags, hurling mikes and raising slogans against the partisan behaviour of the BSP government and the Governor, who was chairing the Budget Session.

The incident occurred after Mulayam Singh Yadav accused Governor Rajeshwar of indirectly helping the Mayawati government.

While addressing the Budget Session of the State Assembly, the SP leader said that the Governor was helping Mayawati’s government at the behest of ruling Congress at the Centre.

Mulayam Singh strongly criticised the BSP government for deliberately harassing the SP workers across the state, while apparently referring to the alleged murder of PWD engineer in Auiraya.

“The Mayawati govt is acting against the SP workers. This government has done nothing to foster development, build infrastructure and create employment for jobless persons,” he said.

Commenting further, Mulayam said, “The Mayawati government has failed to improve the law and order situation in the state. There is no electricity, no roads and no relief for farmers, who are suffering due to lack of water supply.”

The SP chief further criticised the BSP government by saying that it was misusing the budgetary allocations for erecting statues and building parks only.

“Mayawati government has cancelled the recruitments done by the SP government with malicious intentions,” he added.

Trying to corner the Congress party, Mulayam said that the former would take help of the BSP government after the General Election.

“The UP Governor has been working at the behest of Centre, who wants to ensure the BSP government’s victory in upcoming polls, Mulayam said.

In view of the volatile situation, the Governor was immediately escorted by security guards and the Assembly was adjourned.

Today’s incident could also be seen as an indication of widening rift between the Congress party and the Samajwadi party.

Congress party had recently locked horns with the SP over its secular credentials in view of the reports that senior BJP leader Kalyan Singh might join the latter.

Mulayam had earlier slammed Congress by saying that his party does not require any certificate on its secular identity from the latter.

Meanwhile, the Congress party has reacted cautiously to the disruption of House proceedings in UP Assembly and SP’s attack on it.

Congress party spokesman Manish Tiwari has reaffirmed that his party will continue working with SP against the UP government of Mayawati.

“CBI is an independent agency and the UPA government in Centre has in no way tried to influence its working. We have never asked the CBI what to do in any case,” Tiwari said.

Taking a dig at the Congress-SP alliance, the BJP leadership today said that the rift between the two parties was well deserved.

Further attacking the SP and the Congress for its policies, BJP said that the incident has exposed them and the ruling BSP.

The BJP further lambasting the two parties said that rackus in the UP Assembly was a fallout of the “politics of opportunism”.

The way Governor was treated was “unfortunate”, the saffron party said.
