Rudolph Valentino; A Hollywood Icon

Before he became a heart throb to millions of swooning American women, he often frequented the Alexandria Hotel, in downtown Los Angeles, a ritzy hotel at the turn of the century.  The hotel would serve up free lunch and it was for that reason that he would visit the Alexandria Hotel.

Years later he was to become the dashing epitome of the latin lover.  He married actress Jean Acker in 1919, when he was still an unknown aspiring actor.  And Rudolph Valentino died in August 23rd, 1926 in New York, of a perforated colon.  He was born May 6th 1895, in Italy.

Hollywood was not yet a place when he was running around and so it is doubtful that he ever walked anywhere near what is now known as Hollywood.  At the time the area known as Hollywood was simply a field of orange groves.

Not much is known about the iconclast silent film movie star.  Except for rumor and hearsay.  But many of his movies still survive and may be viewed by a new crowd of adoring cineasts.
