Rumsfeld: US seen as weak

In a recent interview former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld expressed his worries about the country’s future. Especially when he was asked about his fears if Obama got four more years. “Eight years gives any administration an opportunity to sprinkle through the executive branch of the government,  great many people who believe what they believe. And to the extent we have people in government today who have decided that they are willing to incur the kinds of trillions of dollars in debt and put that crushing burden on future generations, I think we just get more of the same.”

He also explained that America’s biggest problem is not necessarily the Economy, but also that “we will be seen as weak militarily”, when he weighed in on Iran. “One of the things that race through your mind, are things like Iran having a nuclear weapon, North Korea’s behavior, the terrorist networks that exist in the world, cyber attacks. But the thing that worries me the most is not any of those things specifically. It is the risk, the danger that the United States will increasingly be seen as weak.”

When he was asked about President Obama’s Campaign Strategies and the accusations of politicizing the death of bin Laden, he said, “ The capabilities that were used to kill Osama bin Laden, both intelligence and special operations forces, were investments that were made during the Bush administration, and each president has available to them only what is left by their predecessor.”
