Moscow: The operation of 11 American GPS sites have been taken over by authorities in Russia to “ensure they cannot be used for military purposes”, according to RT News – Russia’s leading new service.
“In compliance with the Russian government’s instruction, Roscosmos and the Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations implemented measures on June 1, 2014, which excluded the use of information from global seismographic network stations working on signals from the GPS system and located on the territory of the Russian Federation for purposes not stipulated by the existing agreements, including for military purposes,”Russia’s Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) said on Sunday morning.

We contacted the Russian Ministry of Defense for comment and a listing of those 11 American companies involved but officials refused to speak with us on this matter. Emails were also ignored.
Dmitry Rogozin also said that Moscow is banning Washington from using Russian-made rocket engines, which the US has used to deliver its military satellites into orbit.
“We proceed from the fact that without guarantees that our engines are used for non-military spacecraft launches only, we won’t be able to supply them to the US,”Rogozin is cited as saying by Interfax news agency (source: : http://www.defencetalk.com/moscow-to-suspend-american-gps-sites-on-russian-territory-from-june-59600/#ixzz33OqJlogs).
