The first solo Rabindra Sangeet album of promising artiste Sabrina Khan Tondra has been uncovered on its release yesterday, Friday 17 April, 2009 at a program held at the Russian Science & Cultural Centre. Noted journalist and writer Anisul Huq formally uncovered the album unleashed by Surer Mela, an audio production house. Eminent artiste Saadi Mohammad, artiste Himadri Shekhar and Riaz Mahmud, proprietor, Surer Mela were present along with a number of guests on this occasion. Tondra performed few of her album numbers at the program later.
The album inspired solely off her deep devotion for Rabindra Sangeet, consisted of 12 songs. Beside the title number, the other tracks include Sukhay Amaye Rakhbe Keno, Aamar Nishith Raater, Ami Kaan Payte Roi, Amare tumi Aushesh Korecho, Jaarey Nije Tumi, Amar Shokol Raser Dhara, Aji Ei Gondhobidhuro Samirone, Ghorete Vromor Elo, Kego Auntorotoro Shay, Ai Je Tomar Prem and Bishwo Jokhon Nidramogon .
Album’s music direction is done by Shuvayu Sen Majumder, the noted Esraj artiste of West Bengal. The album is marketed by Surer Mela.
A few gems off Tagore’s musical creations, typically of Puja Parbo, Baul –genre, Keertan-style and popular ones adorned the album, which gave the artiste, in her words, ` …refuge in the time of crisis’. Not only Tondra considers Rabindra Sangeet a matter of devotion, she has been fortified with academic learning as well to come up as a well-trained singer of the format. She took lessons from Shapna Ghoshal, Sucheta Chowdhury, Agniv Banerjee, Indrani Ghosh and classical exponent Rajarshi Ghosh of West Bengal as well as from Saadi Mohammad, Lili Islam, Sujit Mostafa and Himadri Shekhar.
At the age of two and half, she received her first lesson in music from her mother Sajeda Begum. She availed of higher secondary certificate in music from Sangeet Mohabidyalay in 1994 and later took her Bachelor Degree from Rabindra Varati University.
