Jammu, December 21 (Scoop News) – J&K lone women Minister for Social Welfare, Ms Sakina Itoo give assurance to provide due share to disable persons with employment opportunities. She said that Public Service Commission, Service Selection Recruitment Board and Autonomous Institutions have been directed to adhere strictly to 3% quota reservation for physically challenged persons.
She was addressing a gathering after inaugurating 1-day awareness workshop on “Disabilities and their management” organized by Model Institutive of Education and Research and sponsored by Rehabilitation Council of India, here today.

The Minister said that problem of disability is a worldwide phenomenon, adding that need is to initiate and make the life of these disables comfortable. She said providing artificial aids, financial assistance is not sufficient to bring cheer in their lives but safeguarding their rights for dignified living is more important.
Ms. Sakina said that Government has started door to door survey in the State through Anganwari Centres and other branches of Social Welfare Department to ascertain the exact number of disabled population in the state. She said the functionaries of the department have been asked to register such persons and initiate pension cases for them so that every such person can be brought under welfare schemes launched by Government for physically challenged persons. She said that Government has registered 1.20 lakh such persons, who are being provided monthly pension of Rs. 400.
The Minister said that Composite Regional Centre,
Ms Sakina said 783 persons, rendered physically handicapped due to militancy related incidents, have been registered and are being provided monthly pension of Rs. 750.
The Minister said that Government is contemplating to ply a special bus service for physically challenged persons to make their movement easy. She said a separate window would be get opened in the hospitals for such persons.
s. Sara, while highlighting the efforts and activities of the RCI, said that a multipronged and integrated programme, launched by the Council through different schemes, has empowered the disabled to lead a meaningful and dignified life in the society.
Appreciating efforts of the Institute for holding such type of programmes aimed to help disabled population of the State, said that the workshop will go a long way in taking the benefit of the government run schemes to this deprived section of the society.
She said several measures have been initiated by the RCI for making the life of the disabled persons smooth and comfortable, apart from safe guarding their rights. She said it is our collective responsibility to go to such needs persons and extend our services to them.
In welcome address, Arun Gupta said that NGOs, Government agencies have important role in transforming the life of physically challenged persons, adding MIER has emerged a leading instituted in the State where B.Ed a special education is being run for physically challenged persons. He said IGNOU has recognized MIER as one of the special centres in the country to conduct the courses for disabled persons.
s Renu Gupta said that aim of the workshop was provide a platform to the intellectual so that they can share their experience and come up with their valuable suggestion.” We need to work towards a social order both locally and globally” she said, adding that physically challenged persons form an integral part of our society.
While speaking on the occasion, Jogra pleaded for implementation of National Trust in the State, separate reservation counter for physically challenged persons at Railway Stations, fare concession as per prevailing policy, formation of long term policy for disabled persons.
Besides presetting thematic song by the students of the Institute on the occasion, mementoes were also presented to the guest on conclusion of the function.
