An executive vice president at Salesforce.com told news outlets that Salesforce1 “is now our flagship mobile app.” That is it, after 5 years of development? Is this the only purpose of Salesforce1? Wasn’t it developed to help in building any type of app, including ones that are administrative, custom or wearable? This is where the confusion has started, and it started during the keynote speech at Dreamforce, given by Salesforce.com CEO, Marc Benioff.
According to Esteban Kolsky, over 60% of the Dreamforce audience now think it is a mobile app. And why blame them, because Salesforce1 was branded as the “next-generation social, mobile cloud customer platform.” A combination of several facets of Salesforce to help ease the use of the platform. Now two-thirds of these people think its only a mobile application instead of a more broader based platform.
Now, for Salesforce email integration apps, Salesforce1 could prove to be troublesome. The majority of these apps are not mobile compatible, except for Match My Email, which already is mobile compatible, cloud-based, and always on (24/7). These types of Salesforce apps will have a leg up on the new platform, with the others falling quickly behind. Could Salesforce1 thin out apps that are not ready for mobile compatibility? That could definitely be a possibility.
Salesforce1 is only a couple weeks old, so it is difficult to see where it will go. But one thing is certain, there is a bit of confusion about what Salesforce1 is intended to actually accomplish for the apps and their clients.
