Phoenix Arizona. On Saturday the San Diego Padres have activated from the disabled list right handed starting pitcher Andrew Cashner, 27. Cashner has played Major League Baseball since he made his debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2010.
Cashner joined the Padres in 2012 along with his teammate outfielder Kyung-Min Na in a trade with the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs received from the Padres first baseman Anthony Rizzo and starting pitcher Zach Cates.
Cashner has not pitched for the Padres since the middle of June due to an injury to his right shoulder. To make room for Cashner on the Padres 25 man roster, the Padres demoted starting pitcher Frank Graces. 24, to the San Antonio Missions which is the AA minor league branch of the Padres.
Cashner will be the starting pitcher for the Padres on Saturday night at Chase Field in Phoenix. The Arizona Diamondbacks will be hosting their National League Western Division rival in the second of three games this weekend.
Even though the Padres are currently in third place in the National League Western Division with no chance of making the playoffs in the 2014 baseball season, the return of Cashner on the active roster will be a boost to the team morale.
