The trial for Sarah Lunde’s alleged killer, David Lee Onstott begins today in Tampa, Florida. In 2005, a week after she was thought to have been missing, Sarah Lunde’s body was found in a concrete pond and had been weighted down with concrete. Sarah was just 13-years old.
David Lee Onstott, a man Sarah Lunde’s mother had dated, is charged with attempted sexual battery and first-degree murder. In today’s opening arguments prosecutors reminded juror that Onstott confessed the murder to Sarah Lunde’s mother 3 years ago in a taped jailhouse conversation. Jurors will hear this exchange during the trial.
There has been no forensic or physical evidence which links David Lee Onstott to Sarah Lunde’s murder, thus prosecutors will have to rely on circumstantial evidence in order to convict Onstott.
