A few days ago was the Obama girls first day at their new school in Washington. This of course is always a stressful and scary day for young children, such as themselves, not to mention that their father being President doesn’t really help. So what does the press do? Send every reporter and member of the media in the country. That must have really taken away the stress that Sasha and Malia were probably undergoing.
However, worst of all was MSNBC. As the Daily Show with Jon Stewart reported, MSNBC followed the girls and their mother from the hotel they were staying in till the school, as most of the media. But, MSNBC went further : they were actually doing a full and pointless commentary of the scene. Such as, "Sasha’s bag is really too big for her, that’s always the case with kids.". So why say so? Or else, the essential bit of news for the day : "Sasha has an "Ugly Doll" on her back pack", as if that was news worthy. Finally, MSNBC out beat itself by informing us not only of what the girls would be eating for lunch on their first day of school, but also for the next day. I, personally really see the relevance in reporting such news, after all what President Obama’s daughters eat could change the President’s political programme.
MSNBC should really rethink their news priorities and stop imaging that the American people really care about what the Obama girls had for lunch. This channel is really not helping with the image that the rest of the world has of the USA. That is, that Americans are stupid, an opinion which is completely unfair, but MSNBC is certainly not helping to defend Americans from this point of view.
