Say NO to ACTA -Protest rally against treaty threatening free speech and privacy online

After the fall of PIPA and SOPA, the internet community is again uniting to fight against the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA). A protest rally is being organized by the internet community on February 11 all over Europe Union, to defeat treaty threatening free speech and privacy online.  Thousands of supporters are expected to protest in international day of action against ACTA this Saturday.Hundreds of thousands of citizens are expected to take to the streets in an international day of action to peacefully protest ACTA, urging the European Parliament to reject the treaty. A comprehensive list of over 200 protests happening all over the world. Over 350,000 people have signed the petition calling on the EP to vote NO on ACTA with Access Now.

According to Access now, “For the media, we will have policy analysts available to provide thoughtful insight and analysis on the protests, as well as detailed information about this complex international intellectual property treaty. Access will have spokespeople to answer questions in English, French, and Polish. Secretly negotiated by a handful of countries, ACTA lacks democratic credibility and would endanger free speech and privacy online. By encouraging ISPs to police their customers, the agreement would threaten the fundamental rights of citizens. Although several countries have already signed the agreement, mounting pressure over the past few weeks have led many signatories to waver in their support and said they would not rush to ratify the agreement. The world is waking up to ACTA and will not stand by as their rights are threatened online.”
