Scholarly Approach Needed To Study Iqbal : Prof Punjabi

 

 

Kashmir University vice-chancellor, Prof Riyaz Punjabi, on Tuesday released several publications of the varsity’s Iqbal Institute of Culture and Philosophy (IICP).

The books were released during an impressive function organized by the IICP to commemorate the 71st birth anniversary of the Poet of the East, Allama Iqbal (RA).

In his presidential address, Prof Punjabi said called for a scholarly approach in studying different aspects of the life and works of Iqbal. “While researching Iqbal, one must keep in mind the contemporary issues, world philosophy and scientific- perspective,” he told a gathering of academics, officials and members of the civil society.

Prof Punjabi hoped that the IICP will broaden its scope of research on Iqbal. Prof Punjabi also talked about the Reshi and Sufi terminology, asserting that Reshi term was the indigenous Kashmiri term.

The KU registrar, Prof S Fayyaz Ahmad, congratulated the IICP for commemorating Iqbal day annually. “This reinforces the message of the Poet of the East among his lovers, scholars and academics,” he said. “Organizing such functions is a humble tribute of the varsity to the great poet, whose works and philosophy have impressed millions of people across the globe.”

 The Director, IICP, Dr Bashir Ahmad Nehwi dwelt at length over the Iqbal concept of Self and his contributions to the Muslim world. “Iqbal’s philosophy invited attention of scores of scholars across the globe. He was an institution in himself who enlightened the Muslim world about its past,” Nehwi said.

The function was attended by several scholars and academics including the former VC of KU, Prof M Y Qadri.

The books released included Different Shades of Tasawuf authored by Justice Ali Muhammad Mir. It was reviewed by Prof Hameed Naseem Rafiabadi during the function; Critique of Poetry authored by Qadama Bin Jaffer and translated by Dr Muhammad Jaffer Ahrari and reviewed by Dr Syed Majeed Andrabi; 19th annual journal of IICP titled Iqbaliyat which was reviewed by Dr Taskeena Fazili; Kashmir University and Iqbaliyat authored by Dr Bhadruddin Bhat, which was reviewed by Dr Fareed Parbhati and Prof Margoob Banihali as an expert on Iqbaliyat authored by Peer Naseer Ahmad, which was reviewed by Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai on the occasion
