Schools closed in Kashmir,University examinations postponed due to heavy snowfall

Srinagar, December 30 (Scoop News) –  Following heavy snowfall experienced in the valley, the education department has decided to close all the winter schools in Kashmir.

            According to this decision the classes from 9th to 12th in all high and Higher Secondary schools shall cease to function till further orders in this connection.

            The Minister for Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, has directed the education authorities to make it sure that no school staff, including the heads of the institutions leaves the station without the prior permission from superiors.

 

Due to heavy snowfall in the valley, all the Kashmir University examinations scheduled  to be held from 31st December, 2010 (FRIDAY) upto and including 2nd January 2011 (SUNDAY) have been postponed. Fresh dates have alredy been notified afresh.

 

 

Srinagar-Jammu NHW closed for Traffic due to snow fall. Around 100 vehicles stranded near Tunnel. Passengers shifted to safe locations by District Administration Anantnag and Banihal (Ramban).  

 

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir deputed Deputy Commissioner Anantnag to personally monitor the movement of stranded vehicles.  50 vehicles stranded outside Jawahar Tunnel, 20-25 vehicles stranded near lower Munda, 75 vehicles stranded inside Tunnel. These include around 20 Light Motor Vehicles.  The stranded passengers were provided with biscuits and eatables by District Administration, Anantnag. Movement of vehicles started and it is expected that the road will be cleared by evening.

 

Around 50 vehicles stranded at Kawnar on Gulmarg-Tangmarg (G-T) road. CEO GDA, Asstt Director Tourism Gulmarg, SHO Tangmarg, SHO Gulmarg and Engineers of MED and R&B cleared the G-T road and stranded vehicles are being cleared.

Three snow clearance machines deployed in Ganderbal district on Ganderbal-Kulan- Baba Nagri –Sumbal- Garind, Ganderbal- local, Ganderbal-Gutlibagh sectors

 

 

The Kashmir Valley witnessed season’s first snowfall on yesterday evening.  Snow fall recorded in inches in Shopian15", Sonamarg12”, Gulmarg12”- 18”, Pahalgam5”, Budgam 4”, Sopore 2”, Tral 6”, Jawahar Tunnel 12”, Chrare Sharief 6”, Gumri10",Drass 4”, Kargil 5”, Ganderbal  3”, Anantnag 3”, Baramulla 2”, Handwara 2” Bandipore 2”, Awantipore 3”, Kulgam 6”, Rafiabad 5”, Pulwama 5”
