Jammu 30(Scoop News) – Emphasis was laid on promotion of research and extension activities for the benefit of the farming community at the 13th Research Council Meeting which was held here today at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu.
The Research Council meeting held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Dr. D. K. Arora , will continue for two days.
In his address, Vice Chancellor stressed upon the scientist fraternity to lay give priority to research that would help the farmers to help increase productivity and ensure better return for their produce. He asserted that the applied research should target for more profitability to the farming community through better varieties and introduction of hybrids. He stressed for fast dissemination of research work done in the university in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Mushroom, Bee-keeping, Value addition, Post Harvest Technology. He also underlined the need for preparing an action plan to meet the challenges posed by climate change and global warming.
Director Research Dr. A.S. Bali in his welcome address gave an account of various research activities carried in the University. He impressed upon scientists to evolve new high yielding varieties to increase productivity.
The meeting was also attended by Heads of different Departments of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Directors and Deans, Heads of the Divisions, Stations and Regional Stations of the University besides other stake-holders.
