From his meager start behind the lens with his first film as a director – 1959’s Vesuvius VI, a young Martin Scorsese gained recognition with 1972’s Boxcar Bertha. Now the “Italian Stallion” of movie making finally jumps from behind the lens to see himself walk down the golden brick road.
Born Martin Luciano Scorsese in 1942, the real King Of New York, has knowingly been wooed and waived by the Academy to which he has gracefully sat back laying in wait, for a honor he so richly deserves. A timorous audience roared to it’s feet upon the announcement gratefully executed by friend/peer/mentors Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg & George Lucas. The Powerhouse trio’s arrival signaled an immediate and automatic response from the audience who obviously were visibly stirred, as the "Raging Buzz" was on the GreatestFella of them all.
Taking time to note the cast of The Departed, he acknowledged friends & family as well Scorsese showed a humble and almost lèse-majesté response as he is directed (pun intended) back to center stage to accept his second statue for Best Picture. Far overdue; one has to wonder if it was a matter of "getting it out of the way" for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, as pressure from the movie-buying public and industry figures alike , simply could not sit back watch legendary director "Depart" the Kodak Theater for yet another year…trophy-less.
Speaking of overdue, Composer Supremo – Ennio Morricone received accolades for his contributions to the film world from Dirty Harry himself who respectfully translated the musicians acceptance speech.
