The Minister was speaking at a function organized on celebration of Centenary year of Bharat Scouts and Guides here today at
Chairman, Pahari Speaking Board, Mushtaq Ahmd Bukhari, Commissioner/Secretary Education, s. Naseema Lankar, Director, Social Welfare, Jammu Mehmood Rana, Principal, GCW, s. Nalni Kholi besides senior functionaries of Bharat Scouts and Guides Movement which include, Chief Scouts Commissioner, I.D.Sony, Senior vice president, s. Roma Wani, State Commissioner, s. Naseerna Khan and principals of several schools were present on the occasion.
Sakina said that scouts and guides can play an important role in sensitizing people about the welfare schemes meant for weaker sections, destitute and downtrodden and physically challenged persons of the state as a part of social service.
The Minister said physically challenged population of the State need help and impressed upon the scouts to extend whatever help they could to miserable lot. She felt that scouts and guides programme should run side by side with regular education so that the movement can grow to its full extent.
Referring the employment opportunities to educated youth, Ms Sakina said that Government has taken several steps in generating employment avenues in the state, apart from introducing Sheri Kashmir Employment Policy. She said it is not possible for the Government to provide government jobs to everyone, adding that low interest loans are being provided to educated youth so that they can set up their own income generating units. She appealed scouts to create awareness among the youth so that more persons come and take benefit of the employment policy.
Appreciating the role of girl scouts and guides, s Naseema Lankar said that education department and Scouts and Guides Movement need to go hand in hand to make it more result oriented. She said good education create talent and asked guides to grow with morals and principals. She said it is golden period for the children to receive good moral and academic education to become a responsible citizen of the State.
While giving resume of the activities of the Movement, s. Roma Wani said that the movement started in 1931 and presently 35 million in 160 countries are associated with it globally. She said scouting is self education outside the four walls of the classroom, which strengthens character, consciousness, physical fitness and development of leadership qualities among the youth. She said scouting is an important non-formal education which generates education in values in a more useful and lasting manner.
s. Wani said that development of mental health, sublimation of instincts, training in social service, creating a spirit of adventure, training in citizenship , creating dignity of labour, inculcate love for nature and development of personality traits are among the major activities of the Movement.
