SDRF commence training in disaster preparedness

Srinagar, March 26 (Scoop News) –  Four weeks disaster preparedness training programme for 500 personnel of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Battalion was inaugurated by Dy. Inspector General of Police, Civil Defence, HG, Aux Police and SDRF, Mubarak Ahmed Ganai, today at Batallion HQ, Bhagat, Barzulla. The inaugural function was also attended by Commandant SDRF Mehraj-ud-din Shah, Deputy Controller CD, Rafiq Ahmed, Dy. SP’s Ghulam Haider, Nazir Ahmed, Abdul Rashid, Mohammed Yusuf besides Dr GM Dar Associate Professor IMPA, Dr IPS Bali, Red Cross Trainer, Dr. Puja, Dr. Inayatullah from Civil Defence.

Ganai in his inaugural address asked the trainees to take keen interest in the training as they are now mandated to act in case of any disasters. He stressed that unless the trainees undergo proper training they will not be able to participate in any rescue operation. It is pertinent to mention that due to the efforts of Addl. DGP Ms. D.R. Doley Burman, the Auxiliary Police has now been converted to SDRF by the Government. The aim of the SDRF team is to mitigate the sufferings of the people and act as trained Search and Rescue Teams. The SDRF personnel, will be trained in response for floods, collapsed structures, medical response and other disasters including earthquakes, radiological, biological, nuclear and chemical disasters.
