Search teams will resume looking today for the body of 63 year-old Steve Fossett and any remnants of the airplane he was last seen taking off in almost a year ago. Steve Fossett made millions from trading and exchange companies he founded but became an avid pilot, balloonist and sailor later in life.
Steve Fossett was last seen on September 3, 2007 taking off in a small airplane from a Nevada ranch owned by hotel mogul Barron Hilton. He was declared dead on February 15, 2008.
This week’s efforts to find Fossett’s remains are led by fellow adventurer Simon Donato who will embark on an exhaustive search of the high Nevada desert and surrounding mountain areas. Donato and his team are funding the search expedition themselves.
Fossett set numerous records for adventure sports including the longest balloon ride in which he circumnavigated the globe without landing. He also won the record for longest flight without landing when he flew around the world one and a half times. He currently holds 60 records in five different fields.
