Season’s first snowfall in Kargil Ladakh

 Kargil (Ladakh), January 06 (Scoop News) – In Jammu and Kashmir, the first heavy snowfall was observed in Kargil District as the whole district converted into a white town. People were eagerly waiting for the first snowfall which was late than the last year.

            As reported by an elderly person snow fall in this season is considered to the water source for the summer, but the snowfall in the after February is considered as waste as that snow didn’t remains stored.

            In Kargil town recorded 2 inch snowfall, Drass has recorded 3.5 inch snowfall and still continuing, Taisuru and Rangdum recorded 2 inch snowfall and still falling, Zanskar and Chiktan region is cloudy and there is no snowfall till last reports came. The snowfall has raised the minimum temperature from 17 degree to 12 degree due the cloudy nights.

            The District Administration has called a meeting under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kargil, M Raju and took stock of the arrangements made for snow clearance and a control room has been setup at Baroo Kargil. The Administration has also requested the people living or traveling from avalanche areas to take precautionary steps while traveling from those places.

            The Dy SP Headquarters, Mohammad Aslam told that in view of the Road Safety Week and in view of the fresh snowfall the one way route has been diverted into two ways to avoid any kind of slippery accident in Kargil town. He requested the drivers to drive a limited speed and always take into consideration the snowy and slippery road so that least incidents may occur.

            According to the Metrology department that snowfall will continue for two more days.
