Secretary of Defense confirms capture of terrorist suspected in Benghazi, Libya attack that killed Ambassador Stevens and three others on September 11, 2012

Ahmed Abu Khatallah.

On June 18, 2014 the  Secretary of Defense issued the following press release regarding the capture of a man suspected in the attack in Benghazi, Libya that killed Ambassador Stevens and three others on September 11, 2012:

“I want to commend all the service members who were involved in the planning and execution of the operation to capture Ahmed Abu Khatallah. Their tireless efforts may only be known to a few but are felt by all Americans who are proud of what they do every day to defend this nation.

This successful counter terrorism operation is another example of the extraordinary capabilities of the United States military and our unrelenting commitment to hold accountable those who harm American citizens.”

There is currently a lot of speculation regarding the details of Khatallah capture, that I am unable to confirm right now. So I won’t speculate on it until I can get confirmation of the facts from the Pentagon or White House. With that being said the fact that the Secretary of Defense issued this press release confirms involvement by the US military in this operation.
