AYODHYA: Security has been beefed up across Uttar Pradesh on the eve of the 15th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition.Police SOG, Rapid Action Force and PAC commandoes were patrolling Ayodhya, Varanasi and Mathura where bomb disposal, anti-sabotage and sniffer dog teams were put on standby, officials said.Heavy security was deployed at the acquired land complex in Ayodhya, the Kashi Vishwanath temple-Gyanvapi mosque and Lord Krishna temples of Mathura, they said.Some Hindu groups had declared Thursday as ‘Victory day’ while Muslim organisations would observe it as ‘Ibadat’ (prayer) and ‘Black day’, due to which security forces were taking no chances.
‘It is not possible to ensure 100 per cent security as the town is always at full capacity with devotees, and crowds provide easy access to terrorists. But, we are trying our level best,’ Ayodhya Superintendent of Police G N Khanam said.
He said after getting inputs from intelligence agencies, an alert was sounded and every security point was being monitored minutely.Police camps equipped with metal and explosive detectors were set up and important area were being monitored by CCTVs, Faizabad Senior Superintendent of Police B P Tripathi said.Police and paramilitary forces were checking all trains and motor vehicles, questioning suspicious persons at hotels, ‘dharamshalas’ and roadside ‘dhabas’ in the three towns, officials added.
