The Chief Guest Former Judge, Justice Bashir Ahmad Karmani while delivering his address, stressed for fighting this menace collectively and said that the issue should not be treated women’s problem but, it should be taken as issue which is a concern of the society as a whole and said there are certain wages and means by which we can fight against this evil faced by our society. He said though the Shama Foundation has taken a initiative to aware the common people of this great human issue by conducting seminars, debates and launching a campaign against those, who biased against the women folk, and hoped that in the future the Foundation will succeed in roping a big chunk of the people of the society to aware the demerits and damages to the society caused by treating women as a neglected part of the society. He said that we can fight against this human evil and injustice towards women from homes, mosques, schools and colleges and Universities by inculcating the moral values in the minds of the budding youth and educating them about the respect towards the parents, tolerance, and women folk. He said that if women of any family will be disturbed, the whole family has to suffer.
He said that the religion of Islam has given full rights to the women and she has the full freedom not only adopt his carrier but to live with dignity and honour. He further said that unless we will not fully empower women and build confidence in their minds, aware them about their due rights, besides train them about their self defence and make society aware about the moral values, tolerance and respect to women folk. He said that most important thing is to change our mind set, attitude and selfless work to the society.
Earlier, the Director Women Studies Centre, Government College of Education, Srinagar, Dr Parveen Pandit put a brief light on the subject and said that it is very unfortunate that in 21st century, the women since are not safe and are continuously suffering at the hands of the other sex by way of violence and humiliation and added that in fact, that the women suffer from humiliation, harassment, exploitation and violence because of the so called inferior sex. She further said that violence against women manifest itself as “rape’ molestations tripping, violence including wife battering, dowry harassment dowry death, cruelty to women driving them to commit suicide verb abuse and other forms of murder like female feticide, female infanticide and sati.
She further said that though a number of ladies presently are occupying top positions in the country as well as in the State, but still women are being treated as inferior one. She said that now the time has come not only the women should come forward for protecting their due rights ,dignity but the other sex should change their mid set for a healthy society.
