Seminar on Traffic Management held at Women College,Srinagar

Srinagar, September 19 (Scoop News)-A seminar on traffic Management organized by Women Studies Centre Govt. College for Women, M A Road in collaboration with the Inner Call Forum for Evolution, Development and Awareness was held in the auditorium of the College here today.

DIG Traffic,  Shafqat Ahmad Watali, S P Traffic,  Hasseb-ul-Rahman, attended the function as guests while as Chairperson, Inner Call Forum, Dr. Roma Wani, Principal GWC M A Road, Mtr. Tanveer Ara, Coordinator Women Studies Center M A Road, Mtr. Yasmeen Ashai, Staff and Students of the college participated in the function.

On the occasion, Speakers highlighted various issues pertaining to the traffic management system in the valley especially, challenges faced by the women folk while travelling in the vehicles. They also highlighted the inconvenience faced by the general public on account of  traffic  jams and described it as a burning problem, which needs to be tackled at an earliest

The issue of  seats reserved for women folk in the public transport which are inadvertently occupied by others which leads to the non implementation of orders regarding reservation of seats for them was also raised  . They also take discussed on daily traffic jam and pointed out to various important routes particularly Panthchowk. Rambagh, Karan Nagar and steps needed to regulate the traffic on these routes.

They suggested traffic department to make traffic rules more efficient to ensure road accidents are minimized and defaulters are curbed and called for making a team of volunteers to check the overloading and other problems being faced by commuters in mini buses.

It was also told that in addition to heavy rush of traffic illegal parking and other factors are also responsible for heavy jams across the valley and urged upon all agencies to work in close synergy to check the same.

While speaking on the occasion students of college highlighted various issues including overloading, eve teasing, and concession in bus fare.

Speakers appreciated the installation of Traffic signals at various parts of the State and urged upon the traffic department to make a fool proof traffic management system to reduce the traffic congestion.

 Watali speaking on the occasion said that despite various hurdles including narrow roads and encroachments traffic department has taken various initiatives for the betterment in traffic management system and department is committed to provide smooth and better traffic system in the state.

While responding the various questions raised by students he f urged upon the people to come forward and bring complaints regarding the traffic department. He said that we are holding camps for traffic counseling, besides generating a special common phone number for the people, so that they can put forth their grievances before the department.

It was stressed that certain measures are to be adopted by the drivers and commuters for their safety, which include  Avoiding rash driving, obeying  Traffic rules, Adhering  to permitted speed limits, wearing  protected gears, Avoid  using  cell phones and never drink while driving.
