Extremists struck again in India and this time terror was in the Information Technology capital of India – "Bangalore". Seven serial bomb blasts took place within a short span of time. Thereafter two more blasts took place
According to news report two people have been killed and approximately 20 persons have been badly injured. Actual number is yet to be ascertained.
The first seven bomb blasts took place in the afternoon during lunch hours. Each blasts occured after one another and within a few minutes between 1: 30 & 2:30 pm.
According to the Bangalore Police Commissioner Shankar Bidri the blasts took place between 1.40 and 1.45 pm at Mysore Road, two places in Adugodi, R V College locality, Madivala, Richmond Circle and Pantharapalya.
Four of the blasts were between Hosur Road and Madiwala, the other three at Nayandahalli, Vittal Mallya Road and Richmond Circle.
The eighth blast blast took place at Hosaguddahalli, near Gopalan Mall, on Mysore road at around 5.30 pm and the ninth blast took place near the R V Engineering College on Mysore Road at 6.30 pm.
Bangalore polices has discovered that in five blasts low intensity explosives were used. From one of the blast sites they have recovered gelatine sticks. These sticks were sent for forensic examinations.
Forensic experts has claimed that gelatin sticks were not used for the blasts. From their reports it has now become clear that the bombs were triggered off by using ammonium nitrate and urea.
Both these are commonly used as fertilizers and they were packed with nuts and bolts and then attached to a timer device. But police claim that mobile phones were used to trigger the explosion. Till now no mobile phones have been found.
After the blasts major cities of India – Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab & Kolkata has been put on red alert. In Banglore school , colleges, universities, shopping malls , cinama house, multiplex and many offices were closed early.
Panic stricken residents of Bangalore started making telephone calls to enquire about the whereabout of their relatives and families and this situation resulted in network conjection and traffic jams.
Till now no one has claimed any responsibility for the blast but the Intelligence Bureau says that Students Islamic Movement of India and Harakat-ul-Jihad-i-Islami might be behind the blasts.
This city was a very peaceful city and this was the first time that serial blasts have taken place.
Further results are awaited.
