India is actively considering in finishing the Sethu Samudram project, despite of the politics involved in it to scuttle the stalling of the project, especially peoples belonging to BJP and its allies and its prospective allies like AIADMK.
DMK and its allies including the congress is very firm in finishing the project as early as possible despite of the uprising trend in the budget of the project and the series of court proceedings on the one pretext or another, frequently stalling the progress of the project.
Recently AIADMK supremo Ms.Jayalalitha has passed certain remarks about the project which needs careful examination and responsible and correct answers from the concerned authorities.
It is no doubt that the Sethusamudram project is aimed at shortening the circuitous route of the commercial ships by many kilometeres. But, Ms.Jayalalitha pointed out that the depth of the project being only 12 meters, the project will not serve the purpose of big commercial ships. It is also alleged that her point of view has also been supported by a naval chief.
The Government should come forward and clarify if the canal does not serve the purpose of big commercial ships, is it feasible and advisable to spend a heavy budget for the project. Why don’t the government dispel the doubts of such political leaders, even if it comes from the opposition quarters ?
