Sex.com, which is considered as one of the most valuable domain names, has been put on sale and is scheduled to be auctioned off on Mar 18.
The auction will be held at New York law firm Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf LLP and the bidding is expected to start at 1 million dollars.
The domain name was registered by Gary Kremen, founder of dating website Match.com and chief executive of Grant Media, in 1994. In 2006, DOM Partners LLC combined forces with Escom LLC and purchased the domain name at a reported price of 14 million dollars.
According to a book the Sex.com Chronicles (2008), at one particular point in time the website was making as much as 15,000 dollars per day.
