In a trailer park community located in St. Petersburg, Florida that looks pretty peaceful lies something “interesting.” Almost half of the residents of the Palace Mobile Home Park are made up of registered sex offenders. If you ever take a look at this place, you can see that a good number of residents are wearing ankle monitor systems which alert authorities if they wander too far.
Some of the convicted sex-offenders happen to be pedophiles. Luckily, there are no children allowed on the premises. Palace Mobile Home Park is adults only and it serves for people whom have a low-income. One person that was released earlier this year in June said that this is a piece of “heaven.” The recently released offender explains that this trailer park gives people like him a “second chance” at life.
Movement and actions are limited due to new laws passed and spread throughout the United States. We’ve all seen the news and read the new laws on where sex offenders can live. They can’t live near schools nor go near other places where children interact with each other.
So far, it’s one of the places that do welcome sex offenders. However, the manager tends to run a therapy program to help them reintegrate into society. It is said that almost six-hundred sex offenders have lived in the mobile home park within the last couple of years. But, what about the people who live in that park who are not sex offenders?
However, not all offenders are easily let in from what the manager explains. She states that everybody is carefully screened. While it seems to be a sanctuary for these offenders, it’s still very strict according to the manager. She states that if you mess up, she has no sympathy.
Still, it brings concerns to those who are not sex offenders. It’s very understandable that they’re going to feel uncomfortable and unsafe around these people. One person explains that it’s a safe place because none of these people want to go back to jail and will do anything to keep from going to jail.
Luckily, the police visit this trailer park very frequently.
Also, it seems that they seem to be self-regulating. One person committed an offense again after being admitted. Ironically, he was turned in by another sex offender.
The thought of a sanctuary for sex offenders leaves a lot of mixed feelings and emotions. However, there is the sheer irony of a sex offender getting turned in by a fellow sex offender.
But hey, at least they’re all being put in one place. And we know that repeat offenders are going to be put back in jail.
Still, it’s a creepy thought regardless to be living in an area full of sex offenders. One could speculate what’s going on through the minds of the people who have to live with those people.
