Without a doubt one of the biggest issues with our teens in the US is unwanted pregnancies. There is a frightening increase in sexual activity and today’s teens.
While a recent RAND survey wants to blame it on the media, some experts say it is purely biology. Who are these experts? Well advertisers of course!
Sex sells. Sex sells clothes, perfumes, cars, video games, computers and even iphones. For some reason advertisers and companies figured out that if you showed an image with graphic sexual undertones in it your product would sell.
Even yogurt commercials are racy now- who eats yogurt that way? Apparantly, Americans do!
Don’t even get me started on shampoo commercials.
I know that by the rest of the world’s standards we are ‘prudish’ when it comes to sexuality. But when we look we are in truth more graphic with our sexual innuendos. At least the British show a boob, we have to hide it under layers of fog machine, and lacy lingerie…and that is a commercial for perfume.
Hmmm, wake up America! I love children I really do, but I want our children to grow up before they have to make adult decisions regarding parenting.
I speak from experience, while I had a child at 18 and I adore my college graduate- I could have done a much better job with him if I hadn’t been so young and inexperienced in the grown up world.
